Springfield MA cerebral palsy is a permanent disorder affecting movement, posture, perception, and activity. It is the result of damage to the cerebrum, the section of the brain most directly affected (though other areas, as well as connections between areas, are thought to be affected as well). Springfield MA cerebral palsy affects babies and children, with the damage to the brain occurring in the womb (about 75% of cases), during birth (about 5% of cases) or after birth, from time in the hospital up to about age three (about 15% of cases). Though the damage to the brain occurs very early, the individual is impaired for life. There is no cure for cerebral palsy.

Unfortunately, some cases of Springfield MA cerebral palsy may be preventable. One way in which the damage to the brain occurs is through oxygen deprivation which may happen naturally in the womb or may result during the birth process. If the medical professionals on hand fail to recognize or correct a problem with the baby’s oxygen supply, a case can be made for negligence.

Similarly, poor care after birth in the hospital nursery can result in cerebral palsy and may indicate medical negligence. As tragic as every case of Springfield MA cerebral palsy is, a preventable one is doubly so and may be evidence of Springfield MA medical malpractice.
