The cerebrum is a section of the brain, and it thought to be the region most severely affected in cases of cerebral palsy. Other brain regions, as well as connections between regions may also be affected. In total, the damage to the brain results in a host of symptoms, including motor, movement, posture, and perception problems. Cerebral palsy occurs in the first three years of life (especially in the womb, where 75% of cases begin) but it has no cure and afflicts an individual for the duration of life, causing problems with independence, self-sufficiency, and basic functioning. Many to most individuals afflicted with cerebral palsy require intensive care throughout their lives.

Oxygen deprivation (hypoxia) of the brain is one of the most common causes of cerebral palsy. This most frequently occurs in the womb (75% of cases), but may also occur during birth, or after birth, from the nursery through about the first three years of life.

While Chicopee cerebral palsy can result from natural causes, medical negligence can also be to blame. In particular, negligent actions during birth or in hospital care for newborns (especially premature babies) can easily result in the lifelong effects of Chicopee cerebral palsy. Any unnecessary trauma or failure to recognize and correct a problem with the baby’s oxygen supply can indicate medical negligence.

Any case of Chicopee cerebral palsy is tragic; one that could have been prevented is almost intolerable.
